Here is a sample example of a scenario and the calculation that the computerized software system does for us and then lets us know on the timesheet print out for hours worked daily
8 hour 27 minute actual work day based on time punches in the time clock if there is no break taken during the day shift. Here are the exact times as an example hypothetical
Start time of 9:00 am
End time of 5:27 pm
This is close to / near (nearly) an 8 ½ hour work day. If it were 9:00 am – 5:30 pm then this would show up on the timesheet time-card for reporting as 8.50 hours and this is the same thing as 8 ½ hours.
Since 27 minutes is less than 30 minutes (the employee finished their shift accurately at 5:27 pm and not exactly at 5:30 pm), then when there is reporting done on the timesheet for payroll, the 27 minutes worked gets converted to a fraction out of 60 (because there are 60 minutes in an hour)
27 divided by 60 is represented as 27/60 = 0.45
Each full hour worked gets 60 minutes out of 60 minutes and this is 60/60 = 1.00
So the employee’s hours worked are:
